ThursdaysTips (Travel Edition)!

✈️ Are you planning to go home or travel during the holidays?

If your residence permit is expiring soon or has already expired, good news: you can leave and return to France with your API (Attestation de Prolongation d’Instruction / Certificate of Extension of Instruction) (provided you have already started the procedure to renew your residence permit).

📌 But beware, remember to present the following documents to the competent authorities:

  • ✨ 1. Passport currently valid
  • ✨ 2. Old residence permit / VLS-TS (Long-Stay Visa serving as a Residence Permit)
  • ✨ 3. API (récépissé / certificate of extension of instruction - API)
  • 🛑 Cautionary advice: Make sure that the validity dates of your API fully cover the entire duration of your trip (round trip).

💡 Useful Mini Reminder:

The API is an official document given when your renewal application is under review. It extends your rights (stay, health insurance, CAF, and sometimes work depending on your status).

  • Your permit is expiring or has expired ✔️
  • You submitted your application within the legal deadlines ✔️

Apply via the Prefecture's contact form

🎁 Bonus Tip: Create a "travel folder" on your phone with all your documents (PDFs + photos); it's an administrative lifesaver.

✨ Check back tomorrow... major spoiler: a contest with prizes to win. You don't want to miss it. 😏🎁
