There are different types of childcare centres in Paris. The main ones are municipal childcare centres, community childcare centres and parental childcare centres. Below you will find a brief description of these centres and their enrolment procedures.

These childcare centres are collective early childhood care centres run by the City of Paris and are approved and supervised by the PMI (Maternal and Infant Protection Service). Professionals (childcare providers, educators, nurses, etc.) welcome children aged two and a half to three years, from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The application for enrolment is filed at the borough hall of the parents’ residence, from the 6th month of pregnancy.

Documents to be submitted (original and photocopies for each document):

  • copies of parents’ passports
  • proof of address
  • copy of the child’s birth certificate or pregnancy certificate
  • copy of the family record book
  • copy of employment contract or work placement agreement or student card

These childcare centres are collective early childhood care institutions run by associations and are approved and supervised by the PMI (Maternal and Infant Protection Service). Professionals (childcare providers, educators, nurses, etc.) welcome children aged two and a half to three years, from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The application for enrolment is filed directly with the head of the institution, from the 6th month of pregnancy.

These childcare centres are collective care centres run by parent associations operating under an agreement with the city of Paris and with the approval of the Department’s PMI service. Parents at these centres care for children aged between two months and a half to three years, ten hours a day, in collaboration with professionals (childcare providers, educators, nurses, etc.).

The application for enrolment is filed directly with the establishment.
